You can’t shut down the internet

You, yes you, dinosaur of the industrial age, get this into your head: this age is about information and information is really totally different from material matter. One curious property of information is that if you try to take it away …. it multiplies! Not by magic, but by the nature of the human mind which just loves to delve into a big sea of information and reacts strongly to forces that try to dry up this well.

So, read up on the Streisand Effect and learn a lesson. All you RIAA, DCMA, Cease and Desist lawyers and Patent Pushers out there. You are of the past, just lie down and die.

The latest attempted attack on free speech was reported from The Register, in a case of a blogger against an Uzbek Billionaire.

Bye Bye Gravenreuth!

Bravo TAZ !

The problems with OpenID

The Identity Corner » The problems with OpenID

If you are using openId, think again and read the above article. There are so many things wrong with openId, you could just as well put all your usernames, passwords, social security number and credit card numbers open on your website.

Don’t be afraid of the Fatburner

For the last 7 days I’ve been doing the YRG 20 minutes workout every day.  It was a bit challenging in the beginning because the moves were new, but now I’ve got a good handle on it. I thought that I would stay with this workout for 2-3 weeks until I am proficient enough to advance to the next level, but today I tried the 40 minutes Fatburner workout to see if I could do it.  To my surprise it wasn’t that hard! A few moves were new, which accounted for the extra 20 minutes, but energy wise it was absolutely doable.

So, the lesson is, don’t be afraid of YRG, you can do it, because you are creating just the level of resistance which is right for you.

I will change my plan then and do the Fatburner workout every other day.

Sydneys wall of shame

Sydneys wall of shame - National - smh.com.au

It’s APEC in Sydney and again, whenever the ‘big’ guys get together to decide how to screw over the rest of the world, they made sure that they are not disturbed by the rabble (or rather the people that they somehow represent?)

The Sydney APEC Fence

“The Great Wall of Sydney is a wall of shame and a testament to the disastrous and anti-people policies of the capitalist leaders of APEC,” Communist Party spokesman Mr Symon said in a statement today.

Well I’m not a communist, but I have to agree on that with Mr Symon. I always wonder why the elected leaders of ‘democratic’ countries have to hide behind high walls to make their policy. What do they have to hide?

But as Michael Franti sings: “Those who build walls are pretending that forever they can defend them.” We Germans have seen first hand the power of the people and the fragile nature of oppressing walls.

Yoga for Regular Guys

YRG DVDNow I thought I’m quite fit. I work out a bit each day, and although I never get caught in a Gym, I’ll do my strengthening exercises, pushups, chin ups and squats almost daily. But when I found YRG on the internet, I became intrigued and ordered the DVD straight away. Much to my surprise it arrived just 3(!) days after I’ve ordered it, which is phenomenal, considering that normally an order from Amazon takes up to 6 weeks(!) to arrive here in Australia. So I guess there must be some synergistic effect at work here.

Anyway, today was my second day doing the 20 minutes workout, and I’m really impressed. My back muscles ache like as if I’ve never trained before and my quads almost killed me during the lunge touchdown (aka Superstar). I am having as much fun doing the workout as the guys and girls on the set and I’ll post my progress. At this time I couldn’t imagine doing the 60 or 40 minute workout that also came on the DVD.

Diamond Dallas PageSo what is this YRG? Well, there’s this huge guy, Diamond Dallas Page, a former heavy weight ‘world’ champion in staged wrestling. He started his wrestling career at 35, an old age really when most other wrestlers already retire. When at the crown of his career he ruptured two vertebral discs in his lumbar spine he couldn’t even bend to tie his shoes, his wrestling career seemed to be over. Then his wife got him to do Power Yoga and after a few months doing this consistently he got back his flexibility and core strength and stepped back into the ring to become 3 times ‘world’ champion. Now I’m not into wrestling, as this is very much an american thing, but having a big guy like this preaching Yoga is very interesting indeed. So he developed his own style of Yoga to include more strengthening and cardio elements so that it would appeal to the ‘regular guy’. The moves are all Yoga moves but he’s given them new names that are easier to remember like ‘Road Warrior’, ‘Touchdown’, ‘Superstar’ and of course the ‘Diamond Cutter’ which is his trademark from his wrestling career. Also he really stresses the importance of breathing correctly in and out of the movements and makes you contract all your muscles isokinetically to achieve a strenghtening and cardio effect. I think it rocks. And that is only partly because of his great personality, but mostly because it is a challenging and entertaining workout.

Have a look at www.yrgworkout.com.

Why Firefox?

… the secret is in the add-ons! Below is a short list of plugins that I would sorely miss would I ever switch to another browser:

  • Firebug - a complete Javascript IDE in your browser
  • Webdeveloper Toolbar - too many good utilities for web development
  • FireFTP - a complete FTP client in your browser
  • It’s all text! - edit text from textareas in your desktop editor of choice
  • abcTaipu - provides an easy way to insert accented characters into entry fields or textareas, great for writing German or Esperanto on an English keyboard

It cannot be said often enough - Get Firefox Now!

HOW TO GET FAT WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

Watch this video to understand how the government (specifically the U.S., but others aren’t much better) promotes bad nutrition.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISONN1LHj7g

Now just because the government is at fault, don’t think that serves as excuse for you to be fat! You still got your own mind, think and eat right, no matter what the supermarkets throw at you.
